About Steak U

What this top ten LA steakhouse lacks in variety, however, it makes up for in consistency and quality of the food. Taylor earns consistent votes as top area steakhouse due to its commitment to USDA prime, gourmet steaks, cooked to perfection at prices that are more approachable than comparable establishments. Daily dinner specials dot the menu alongside a host of familiar and hard to find steak cuts.

We recommend the Culotte, a cut taken from the top cap of the sirloin and comparatively tender and flavorful. If you’re feeling like a different preparation for your beef, the ribeye sandwich or beef-eater dip are less formal options that won’t disappoint. While we prefer chowing down on USDA Prime, dry-aged, gourmet steak at home courtesy of Chicago Steak Company’s convenient door-to-door service, sometimes a night out on the town is in order. When we’re on the west coast, nothing beats one of LA’s numerous steakhouse restaurants, all with a distinctively big screen flare, worthy of star-studded acclaim. Try out a restaurant from our list and eliminate any misconceptions you may have of LA’s dining scene being even remotely red meat allergic.

El Che Steakhouse & Bar

Our building is a historic 120-year old Victorian brownstone built in 1897 that has been renovated. Chef Giuseppe Tentori wanted to redefine what a steakhouse should be when it opened GT Prime in River North. The pandemic altered plans, but there’s still a great selection of Aussie wagyu, plus a dash of A5 wagyu from Japan. There’s a package called the Carnivore that offers the best GT Prime for $300. We host nightly live piano entertainment, call for current schedule.

What is the most exclusive restaurant in LA?

OT Taliese Fuaga (14) is an immediate starter and fills a need. QB Spencer Rattler (150) once was a projected first-rounder and has upside. Traded down and still filled a major hole with OT Tyler Guyton (29). Addressed more needs on Day 2 with DL Marshawn Kneeland (56) and OL Cooper Beebe (73). Added depth and value on Day 3 with CB Caelen Carson and WR Ryan Flournoy.

Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse

The design of the Parkway Grill is a study in casual sophistication, striking a perfect balance between elegance and rustic approachability. The brick walls are adorned with elegant paintings by Millard Sheets and mixologists prepare hand-crafted cocktails at the expansive bar, an original from 1920's Chicago. Parkway's award-winning wine cellar, comprised of upwards of three thousand bottles, includes a broad selection of wines served by the glass. Located inside a building that was once a Chicago Fire Department firehouse, this South Loop establishment is steeped in history. In 2017, ownership rebuilt and restored the space after a devastating fire forced it to close.

The commitment to beefy excellence continues to show through with both wet and dry-aged menu options, with a dry-aging room on premises. If the budget has room, try out the melt in your mouth tender certified A-5 Wagyu. One of the most unique menu items, the Baseball Steak is an extra thick top sirloin cut that’s guaranteed to be a homerun every time. The rib-eye, prime rib and filet mignon aren’t any slouches, either. For a side, give the mushroom risotto a try for a creamy, earthy compliment to your perfectly cooked steak’s fiery char.

Although the Hollywood Park Racetrack may be long gone, the longtime staple of betters, trainers and horse enthusiasts galore persists in Los Angeles’ iconic Del Rae Restaurant. Featuring USDA Prime grade beef, white tablecloth service and a host of impressive steakhouse sides, the Del Rae is everything you need to enjoy a fine, gourmet beef meal. The wooden paneling and inviting booths will leave you transported back to a simpler time and set the stage for an impressive and iconic steakhouse dining experience. Speaking of the menu, you can’t go wrong when choosing any of the numerous cuts offered up on Boa’s menu. Tender filets, succulent porterhouse, certified Wagyu beef and even a selection of game meats are sure to satisfy even the pickiest meat eater at the table.

WRs Ainias Smith (152) and Johnny Wilson (185) are excellent value. Got LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the fifth round could be a steal. Added playmakers to help Bryce Young with three of their first four picks, selecting WR Xavier Legette (32), RB Jonathon Brooks (46) and TE Ja’Tavion Sanders. A gathering place for locals and soon-to-be regulars drawn in by the reputation for the finest specialty handcrafted cocktails, elegantly served. Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft consisting of Rounds 2 and 3 continues Friday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2). Eager to get there before Robinson's big moment, Franklin jogged down the block as he identified the house by the balloons outside.

The dining room is set up to give diners a first-hand look at Argentinian-style cuts cooking over open flames on a custom-built hearth. Order the parrillada platter for a variety of different meats, including grilled beef short ribs, sweetbreads, bone marrow, morcilla, chorizo, bife angosto, and more. This century-old brownstone is a quintessential Chicago steakhouse in every sense of the word. Businessmen with fat expense wallets head upstairs for white-tablecloth service, pricey wines and 48- or 64-ounce porterhouses fit for a king. Hogsalt Hospitality’s sultry French-inspired spot is at the forefront of a new wave of steakhouses in Chicago. There are traditional entrees, such as roasted chicken and lamb chops, along with contemporary choices like fried chicken and a French dip sandwich.

Paul Rand: Inspiration and Process in Design Paul Rand: Modernist Master 1914-1996

paul rand design

Notwithstanding his rich academic career in arts, Rand developed his graphic sense through self-education largely, as he voraciously read the European magazines, discovering the works of Cassandre and László Moholy-Nagy. Rand’s career spanned seven decades, and in that time his graphic designs, teaching (he joined the faculty of Yale University in 1956), and ideas broadly influenced several generations of American designers. His major writings include Thoughts on Design (1947), A Designer’s Art (1985), Design, Form, and Chaos (1993), and From Lascaux to Brooklyn (1996). IBM's new design mission - supported by Thomas Watson Jr., the son of the company's founder - visually transformed every aspect of the company, from electric typewriters to computers, advertising and architecture. The idea was to break with a conservative image and look towards the future, to illustrate IBM's renewed growth. Watson called on Eliot Noyes, a former colleague and architect who worked on curative design of the MoMa, among other things, to set up a team composed of Paul Rand (for graphics), Eero Saarinen (architecture) and Charles and Ray Eames (scenography, publications, videos).

In his magazine covers, since the late 1930s, Rand adopted both European modernism and American spirit and functionalism in his graphic style. His distinctive signature was praised by László Moholy-Nagy, a master of the Bauhaus and one of Europe's most famous modernist designers, who had recently immigrated to Chicago. Despite the fact that Rand earned his ultimate success by designing corporate logos, however, the source of his reputation is based on his initial work on page design. In mid 1930s he was requested by Apparel Arts (now GQ) magazine to develop the page layout for their anniversary issue. Later he was offered a job at another prestigious magazine, Esquire-Coronet, as an art director. After first refusal, he accepted the offer, managing the fashion pages for Esquire.

For Rand, the essential elements to visual communication were simplicity and geometry. Remove all sense of nostalgia, sentimentality and figurative representation and get right back to the bare shapes and colors of the artwork. Like a lot of modernist designers of his time, Rand leant heavily on Swiss Style that allowed him visual clarity in his graphic design. For Rand the key to visual communication was to develop a "universal language" of design without weighing upon the need to communicate so much with words as with pictures.

Recent Articles

To achieve an effective solution to his problem, the designer must necessarily go through some sort of mental process. He is aware of the scientific and technological developments in his own and kindred fields. He improvises, invents, or discovers new techniques and combinations. He co-ordinates and integrates his material so that he may restate his problem in terms of ideas, signs, symbols, pictures. He symbolizes — abstracts from his material by association and analogy. He intensifies and reinforces his symbol with appropriate accessories to achieve clarity and interest.

For Rand it was not a case of providing a few options to the client. He would provide a single design, not in concept but in completion. It is worth noting that it was Rand's philosophy that the corporate logo should not be the entity responsible for devising the company ethos and meaning. Rather it should be the opposite and that a successful logo is one that reflects distinctly, memorably and clearly the meaning of the company, not the other way round. IBM's new identity is thus conceived as a global, moving, immediately recognizable work of art delivering a strong message. Charles Eames pointed out, "design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose.".

If the visual at first sight did not appear appropriate to the message of the composition, this was secondary to what it represented as an abstraction of the element. He is able to analyze his problems, but his fantasy is boundless”. Across the industry, Rand helped initiate a crucial shift in creative power from copywriters to art directors.

The design is full of humor and metaphor that stops the reader in their tracks. Born Peretz Rosenbaum in Brooklyn 1914, Paul Rand found himself in the right place at the right time. Heavily influenced by new avant-garde ideas coming out of Europe, he realised the importance of visual communication when it came to commercial design. This is what I find inspiring in Paul Rand and is something that I try to incorporate in my own retro style designs and patterns.

During Post War America there was a huge fear of Communism but also of the persecution of apparent Communism. Companies as well as individuals wanted to avoid at all costs the possibility of being accused of having Communist sympathies. Like artists, who tended to avoid any suspicious figurative representation in art and moved more towards Abstract Expressionism, so too did big business want to be perceived as modern, global looking and "all American". In 1954, when Paul Rand decided that for him Madison Avenue was no longer a two-way street and he resigned from the Weintraub agency, he was cited as one of the ten best art directors by the Museum of Modern Art.

In the latter case, the individual floors are broken into individual apartments and rented out. Many historic townhouses that were built to house one family have been divided up this way. For example, if you choose to live in Sacramento, for instance, purchasing a townhouse may be a great option since they are relatively affordable and provide a low-maintenance lifestyle. In Boston, townhouses offer proximity to the city’s many attractions and a sense of community, while in Portland, townhouses are often designed with eco-friendly features and provide easy access to outdoor recreation.

Helpful tips to know before buying a townhouse

Some of these homes are "Hot Homes," meaning they're likely to sell quickly. Most homes for sale in Hollywood stay on the market for 199 days and receive 1 offers. They’re typically less expensive than single-family homes and offer a lower maintenance lifestyle than owning a standalone house. Townhouses are often located in desirable locations and are a popular housing option for many people. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, then a townhouse may be right for you.

Townhouse vs. condo vs. apartment: What’s the difference?

Some townhouses have a basement or garage, which provides additional living space or storage. Deciding where to live is one of the most significant decisions we make in our lifetime, and choosing the right type of housing is an essential part of this process. With so many options available, such as apartments, detached homes, and townhouses, it can be challenging to decide which type of housing is the right fit for you. While a townhouse may make sense for you now, multi-floor living may not work for everyone and at all stages of life. If you’re planning to expand your family or are worried about your ability to traverse steps in the future, you should have a plan for whether you’ll be able to stay in the property. As the name suggests, townhouses are designed for high-density, urban environments, with a tall and narrow silhouette. The Town House was developed by oil magnate Edward Doheny[3] as one of the most luxurious apartment-hotels in Southern California. They can be a great option for homebuyers who enjoy living close to their neighbors, or who crave a compromise between a detached house and an apartment. This venerable form of housing — dating back to 17th-century Europe — originated in cities, but now can be found in suburbs and exurbs. As the Manager of Content Marketing at Redfin, Jeff leads a passionate team of writers and content strategists who are dedicated to providing engaging content that matters. In this article, we will explore the pros and cons of purchasing a townhouse compared to other types of housing.

Many Millennial homeowners on a budget are choosing newly built townhouse communities within city limits, so they don’t have to sacrifice location when they buy a new home. Homeowners associations can restrict everything from the color of your door to whether you’re allowed to park in your own driveway (as opposed to your garage). Make sure you’re comfortable with the HOA rules — and the financial commitment — before you go ahead with a purchase in any community. Apartments refer to individual living units within a larger building or complex.

This map is refreshed with the newest listings in Hollywood every 15 minutes. Townhouses represent a nice cross between a fully detached home and an apartment. Many in big cities are often situated in historic neighborhoods, so they can be a savvy way to get into a desirable or colorful zip code, especially if you can’t afford a single-family home or brand-new apartment. Many types of homeowners can benefit from townhouses, but they’re a particularly good option for first-time homebuyers, singles or childless couples.

Around the turn of the 20th century, in New York City, they evolved into a more utilitarian form — the rowhouse, built in sets of four, six or eight, identical except for occasional details. And while their popularity has ebbed and flowed over the decades, there are signs that townhouses are getting a new lease on life. In 2020, townhouses comprised 11 percent of single-family new construction, down from nearly 14 percent in 2008, according to an analysis from the National Association of Home Builders. Then, in 2021, the number of new-build townhouses increased by over 28 percent over the previous year.

Townhouses are a popular housing option for many who want the privacy and independence of a single-family home, but also want the benefits of living in a community. They are often less expensive than single-family homes and offer a lower maintenance lifestyle than owning a standalone house. Additionally, townhouses are typically designed to maximize space, which makes them an excellent choice for those who want a larger living area than an apartment but do not want the upkeep of a single-family home. In addition to houses in Hollywood, there were also 59 condos, 8 townhouses, and 47 multi-family units for sale in Hollywood last month. Use filters to narrow your search by price, square feet, beds, and baths to find homes that fit your criteria. Our top-rated real estate agents in Hollywood are local experts and are ready to answer your questions about properties, neighborhoods, schools, and the newest listings for sale in Hollywood.

Shared walls mean it might be possible to hear what’s happening in your neighbor’s house, and vice versa. When you’re checking out townhouses, listen carefully to see how much sound travels from next door. If you’re able to purchase an end unit, you’ll only have to worry about half the noise, but these desirable homes typically have more windows and can cost more as a result. But this compensation does not influence the information we publish, or the reviews that you see on this site.

Homeowners associations can restrict everything from the color of your door to whether you’re allowed to park in your own driveway (as opposed to your garage). Today, townhouses exist in small cities, on the outskirts of cities, and even in suburban areas. In the latter, they are often attached uniform residences belonging to a distinct community that has its own homeowners association. Technically, a townhouse could be any city dwelling, but the name usually applies to a style of multi-floor home that shares one or two walls with adjacent properties. Each has its own entrance and often a small front lawn and backyard as well.

When you’re checking out townhouses, listen carefully to see how much sound travels from next door. If you’re able to purchase an end unit, you’ll only have to worry about half the noise, but these desirable homes typically have more windows and can cost more as a result. Classic house plans & Classical homes

classic house design

The front door is typically a substantial, paneled design with decorative hardware and a transom window. The kitchen, bathed in natural light, showcases a stunning blend of modern and natural materials. Clean-lined cabinetry and a sleek white countertop provide a refined backdrop, while the warm wood tones of the ceiling and floating shelves add a touch of organic elegance. Stepping inside, the home’s interior design seamlessly weaves together the architectural elements, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. An oak “liner” wraps the walls, ceilings, and stairs, defining the various spaces and guiding the eye through the home’s open floor plan.

The Most Durable and Easiest to Clean Flooring Types

These can include symmetry, balance, simplicity, and traditional building materials. Our classic house plans are timeless and elegant and do not adhere to a specific era or architectural fashion. In conclusion, the distinct architectural characteristics, layout designs, interior features, and exterior appearances of ranch houses and bungalows offer unique advantages and cater to different preferences. On the other hand, ranch houses opt for simplicity and practicality in their exterior design, aiming for a modern appearance. While ranch houses exude a more contemporary and horizontal look, bungalows radiate a traditional feel, incorporating unique architectural details that enhance their exterior design. In conclusion, the enduring appeal of classic design style lies in its timeless elements and ability to blend tradition with modernity.

What is modern classical architecture style?

While both offer unique living experiences, bungalows are characterized by their cozy layouts and affordability, whereas traditional houses encompass a broader range of styles and sizes. The design of ranch houses allows for easy indoor-outdoor living, with a focus on blending the interior space with the surrounding landscape. In our quest for the most durable and easiest to clean flooring types, we've explored solid hardwood, engineered wood, laminate, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), and porcelain or ceramic tile. With a focus on affordability and relative durability, engineered wood flooring presents a compelling alternative to solid hardwood for homeowners seeking a balance between cost and longevity in their flooring choice. In comparing the environmental impact of old and modern houses, the use of eco-friendly materials and technologies in modern homes significantly reduces carbon footprint and energy consumption.

The “Soul” Behind Classic Design: Emotional Appeal

Hand-painted floors were the jumping-off point for designer Amy Peltier’s soothing primary bedroom design. “It was so much work, but it turned out beautiful.” The firm wanted the space to feel “light and airy and breezy,” and incorporated fabrics and wall coverings by Thibaut in a soft color palette. Peltier and designer Marina Kelly installed an arch to divide the bedroom from the sitting area, breaking up the large space. Designer Rachel Scheff used the home’s spectacular ceiling, woodwork, and stained glass as the inspirations for her fanciful, flora- and fauna-filled foyer. “It was one of my favorite rooms in the house because it was the one that had the most history preserved, and I wanted to really celebrate that,” she told AD PRO.

Balance and symmetry aren’t just for suburban mansions; they can also work in New York apartments! Cool And Simple Aquascape Ideas For 5,10,20 Gallon Tanks

aquarium design ideas

This DIY aquarium background consists of Styrofoam that has been shaped to look like rocks, which is then covered with colored cement. First, evenly leveling the aquarium’s substrate maintains stability and accentuates the standing stones’ prominence. The added benefit of a valley design is its likeness to a natural riverbed. You can go a step further by adding sand in the middle for an authentic riverbed look. Never underestimate the impact of a strong aesthetic, it can make visitors forgive even the smallest tank. Lastly, consider the use of an aquascaping sand or fine gravel to mimic the look of a rocky mountainside at the base of your arrangement.

Custom Aquarium Background by Dramatic Aquascapes

Play around with the island’s shape, it should not be perfectly round. Use a brighter substrate around the island, this will help to make the island stand out more. Keep these guidelines in mind and soon your aquarium will transform into a lush, underwater Eden, reminiscent of the verdant Dutch countryside.

DIY Aquarium Decoration Ideas You Can Make at Home (With Pictures)

Complete with different color changing light effects, this makes a wonderful mood light for a kid’s bedroom that won’t disturb their sleep and has health benefits too. For a small aquarium setup with a difference, you might find inspiration in this geometrically shaped angular creation. If you’re creative and good at basic DIY, you may like to try this yourself if you can find an old, round-style gumball machine that sits on a stand.

Fun Fish Tank Themes – 15 Creative Ideas For Your Aquarium!

Many fish that care for their eggs or young also use clay pots as a place to spawn. They can be used either whole or broken into sections for smaller aquariums. While it may be difficult to find pieces of the game to buy, you might be able to make replicas out of Legos or other plastic craft pieces. A zen little tank with an intelligent vibe to it and difference in the usual vegetation you’d find in tanks.

Outdoor Koi Pond with Glass Front

This inspiring aquascape looks just like a forest scene from the great outdoors, complete with mountains! This kind of project takes real dedication and a lot of experience, but the results are absolutely amazing. By using real plants, the authenticity will be a pleasant sight to see as well as being better for your fish’s health. Overall, it’s a difficult task to accomplish, but it is amazing if you can pull it off. By hanging rocks from the top of the mesh cover, you can give your tank the appearance of a different planet, one unhindered by the restrictions of gravity. Your fish can swim under, over, or around the rocks, and probably be stimulated by the novelty of it.

This iwagumi masterpiece by George Farmer highlights the simple beauty of this unique aquascape design. Each rock is carefully arranged in the frame to create a simplistic yet bold look, and the dense carpet of plants only adds to its appeal. When we talk about aquarium hardscape, most people think of arranging and stacking rocks or driftwood on the bottom of the fish tank.

It’s essential to ensure it’s not overly complex, allowing for easy navigation and feeding. Planting plays a significant role too in bringing this layout to life. Choose smaller, low-growing species for the foreground, while taller plants should reside at the back for perspective. Installation of a good quality light is crucial for plant growth.

The magic of the dense forest layout lies in its grandeur and complexity. Consider adding aquatic animals, like snails or fish, to keep algae in check and add dynamism to your underwater spectacle. Remember to match species with your chosen plants’ needs and the water temperature and pH they thrive in.

These aquariums are not designed to look pretty but to recreate exactly, a particular habitat, which may or may not include plants or fish. Then there’s great news for you because Spongebob-themed aquarium décor is popular and easy to find. You can create your own Bikini Bottom, complete with a Krusty Krab restaurant and even Spongebob himself.

Finishing up, pour white sand around the corners and let the fish back in. This is a minimalistic, low-effort, and universal DIY plan that fits fish tanks of all shapes and sizes. The soothing, blissful vibes of the fish tank can serve as the perfect stress reliever. And with decorations, you’ll be able to not only turn the aquarium into a piece of art but also make your precious fish happier and healthier.

Whatever you do, don’t add toxins or interfere with the PH level in the tank. You can pick a theme that naturally blends with the rest of the décor or consider something that stands out. Alternatively, you can combine different ideas to create an aquarium design that best suits or describes your personality. First, you need a pale moonlight background and a dark substrate to set the dark tone. You can then incorporate thick, bare trees with branches rising to the top of the tank.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to hardscape, as you can use rocks, sticks and multiple types of substrate to create the effect you desire. It’s almost like recreating an underwater mountainside in your aquarium. Many Iwagumi-style tanks aim to recreate specific natural landscapes too. The plants are used as a backdrop to highlight the rock features or are used to mimic trees and bushes along a hilltop.

That Robin will want to share the experience with Sam (and her two young children by the second marriage), and will recall her early love for George. And that two unassigned characters of opposite genders are required by the laws of screenwriting to get together, even if one is a teenage pimp and the other a yuppie housewife. George, with a time limit on his life, decides to demolish the shack left to him by his father and build his own custom house.

life like a house

The production design in Life as a House is meticulous, accurately capturing the different stages of the house’s transformation. The editing in Life as a House enhances the storytelling, effectively conveying the emotions of the characters and creating a cohesive narrative structure. Mark Andrus’ screenplay for Life as a House is not only emotionally charged but also rich in meaningful dialogue. The conversations between characters contribute to the depth and realism of the story.

He enlists his son, Sam, who is alienated from his stepfather Peter and his mother Robin, who has since been remarried to a wealthy investor. Sam is forced to spend his summer with George, who has not revealed his terminal condition, and help him with the house. Initially, Sam makes it a point not to help George demo the old house.

Prior program events included dance performances from different cultures. Hundreds of people gathered on Low Plaza Monday afternoon as Columbia University faculty delivered speeches in support of the student protesters who were suspended and arrested Thursday. In "Becoming," former  Michelle Obama shared that she pleaded with the White House support staff not to tidy up her daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama's room. It symbolizes the possibility of starting afresh and finding purpose amidst adversity. Alongside Kevin Kline, Hayden Christensen, and Kristin Scott Thomas, Life as a House features a talented ensemble cast. Actors such as Jena Malone, Mary Steenburgen, and Scott Bakula deliver memorable performances, adding depth to the film. The movie highlights the transformative power of self-discovery as George rebuilds his house and, in turn, rebuilds his life. It serves as a reminder that personal growth and fulfillment can arise from unexpected circumstances.

George's shack sits in a cul-de-sac high on a cliff overlooking the Pacific, in Orange County, Calif. Owners of ocean frontage in that area will be interested to learn that with 26 weeks of severance pay as a model-maker, George can afford to tear down his house and build another one. “Life as a House” has much heart and not enough brain, and to the degree that you can put your centers of higher intelligence on hold, it works as a tragicomic weeper. Because it is slick and classy and good to look at, and the actors are well within their range of competence, you can enjoy the movie on a made-for-TV level, but you wish it had been smarter and tougher. It is a little deadening to realize, at about the 25-minute mark, that the problems of every single major character will be resolved by the end. A manipulative tearjerker, Life as a House benefits from fine performances from the cast.

As George’s disease state progresses, he ruminates about his childhood again. He tells Sam about how his mother wore sunglasses indoors because his father beat her. George describes his father as a terrible drunk who one night drove while intoxicated and killed his mother and another woman, in addition to crippling a little girl in the back seat of the other car. George expresses guilt for not killing his father which may have prevented the accident. George confesses to Sam that he has been taking those pain medications for cancer, and he does not have much longer to live. George passes away shortly after, but Sam and his family and friends finish building the house.
